Abteilung MLS des ZIM an der HHU Düsseldorf wanted to evaluate Kubernetes with Tobias Koch as the referenced contact, using real operating practice without immediately building a full internal platform organization. The concrete pilot was ILIAS for e-learning and exams: a real workload for testing container operations, updateability, recoverability, and operating documentation.
The consulting outcome was a container operations strategy for building operating maturity. It focused on clear responsibilities, standardized procedures, runbooks, monitoring/logging, backup/restore, and a fact-based decision path for managed, hybrid, or internal operation.
