Where we come from

Built from the question every project left open.

  1. 01 · The question

    And who runs this now?

    For years we advised universities, public authorities and mid-sized companies that wanted to move their applications into containers, or to evaluate Kubernetes before committing to it. Almost every project ended with the same question.

    Usually operations stuck to one person in-house who carried them on the side. Or they went to a large provider where soon nobody knew whom to call. Both fail. The second one just fails more quietly.

  2. 02 · The platform

    The platform runs what nobody wants to build.

    gh0stcloud takes care of clusters, network rules, certificates, secrets and monitoring. On top run applications that teams deploy themselves, and applications we operate entirely.

    It is the same platform either way. The only difference is how much of the responsibility sits with us.

  3. 03 · The responsibility

    Automation first. Named people behind it.

    The desired state of every application lives in Git. When a running system drifts from it, the platform puts it back, and it recovers from common failures before anyone has to step in.

    Where a decision should not be left to automation alone, people decide. You will find them further down this page, by name.

What we hold ourselves to

Each of these can be checked: in Git, on the status page, on the invoice or in the documentation.

  • Every change lives in Git

    Platform and applications are described as desired state. Who changed what and when stays traceable, and a system that drifts is reset to what is written down.

  • The platform recovers first

    Failed components restart, applications move to healthy servers, certificates renew themselves. People step in where judgement is needed.

  • Measured, not claimed

    We do not commit to an availability we do not measure. What we measure is on the status page, and response times are written down in the service description.

  • Costs to the hour

    Usage is measured every hour, not estimated. Running costs, credit and invoices are visible in the portal at any time.

  • Secure by default

    Containers run without root privileges, or the platform will not start them. Every app is reachable over HTTPS, and certificates renew on their own.

  • Documented in the open, the exit too

    How the platform works is in the public documentation, not in one person's head. How to leave gh0stcloud is written down just as clearly.

I have seen too many projects that were well built and then had nobody to run them. gh0stcloud is our answer to that. We do not promise availability we do not measure, or response times that are not in writing. And if gh0stcloud is not right for a project, I will say so in the first conversation, not in the third month.

    Falk runs gh0stservice and is responsible for operating gh0stcloud.

    Before that he spent years advising organisations that wanted to containerise their applications, or to evaluate Kubernetes before committing to it: universities, public authorities, mid-sized companies. gh0stcloud grew out of the question those projects kept leaving open: who actually operates this now.

    He takes the first conversations himself. That includes saying when gh0stcloud is not the right fit.
